DEPENDENT CHILDREN

In Canada, a dependent child who may be eligible for immigration sponsorship is under 22 and does not have a spouse or common law partner. Both natural-born and adopted children may qualify.

Requirements for the sponsor are:

Minimum 18 years of age; must be a Canadian permanent resident living in Canada or a Canadian citizen or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act; and cannot be in prison, bankrupt, under a removal order (if a permanent resident) or charged with a serious offence.

Requirements for the dependent child are:

They must be less than 22 years of age and a biological or adopted child; or they are 22 years of age or older and have depended substantially on the financial support of the parent since before the age of 22 and are unable to be financially self-supporting due to a physical or mental condition.

While there are other factors to consider, we can assist you in determining if your child or children are eligible.
