Understanding Employment Classifications
Canada’s National Occupational Classification is a way for anyone working in any industry to understand how their job and career fit in the national framework of Canadian work. Each occupation has its own unique number (NOC) to allow individuals to research the standards of their field and better understand the occupation’s expectations in Canada.
Many of the Canadian immigration pathways are based on NOC information. This database also gives newcomers an understanding of the demand for those in their career, or in the career they may like to pursue in Canada. The information is robust and helpful and is updated every 5 years by the government of Canada. Knowing the NOC can be a huge benefit to determining the right immigration program for a prospective immigrant.
